Şercaia (pronounced Sherkaya) – more about the area…

400 ha of delicate Beauty - The Daffodil Glades

Şercaia enjoys an ideal location, mid-way between Fagaras Mountains and the Transylvanian part of the river Olt’s upstream, on the banks of Sercaia river.

The famous Daffodils Glades, the only natural reserve of its kind in Europe, with daffodils all over the place growing freely in their entire splendor, are only 8 km away from Şercaia. This natural reservation covers an area of over 400 ha and it is located in a forest of over 100-years-old oaks, surrounded by villages which have 18th century churches built in solid rock.

Tourists and researchers
The entire area is profoundly involved into a durable development program. Many investments are being made in infrastructure. The environment is completely unpolluted, very attractive for investors, but also for the researchers interested in conducting research activities in the daffodil glades”.

Şercaia is also a settlement inhabited ever since the 13th century, with a fortified 14th century church, which was restored in the 19th century.

4 km away from Şercaia, along a side road, lies Halmeag, mentioned in a document as early as 1211. One can visit a Roman basilica with valuable stone carvings.

8 km away from Şercaia, towards northeast is a local spa and a valuable church built between 1790-1818, with exquisite murals.
