- The district of Rasnov, in the foothills of the Carpathian mountains, has hit the headlines in 2003, as many scenes from the Hollywood blockbuster “Cold Mountain” starring Nicole Kidman, Jude Law and Renee Zellweger were filmed in this area
- The 14th century fort at Rasnov is within walking distance from the plot area;
- This is an area earmarked by the local authorities for tasteful residential & touristic development. Hotels, log cabins, riding stables etc. are seemingly popping up every day!
- Raşnov is approx. 105 miles from the capital Bucharest (and approx. 10 miles from the historic town of Brasov). For the moment, this distance could be covered in two and a half hour drive but this time is likely to be cut to less than two hours by 2010 as the area lies only a short distance from the proposed route of the Pan-European Highway which will link Bucharest with Hungary;
